Here's one guys opinion that really seems to play into the direction Pantheon is going.
Thanks for sharing this bigdogchris, I have to say I agree with him on pretty much everything he said. This is why is concerns me every time people push QOL items, or that 2 hour goal of VR's, or "at least a couple of portals" ALL those kinds of things are what gave us the games we have today, that none of us want to play.
As I've said before we might know what we "want" but we don't know what's good for us.
He has several videos up about this subject, I agree with most of it. Here's another one on fast travel.
Agreed, he certainly gets it. Here is one he did on META in MMOs. https://youtu.be/cg_l28DsJoI
I commented asking him if he was following Pantheon’s development at all, and he replied saying he wasn’t, but hoped VR the best. I can’t imagine he wouldn’t be interest in playing Pantheon given his perspective on things.
Convenience is a great description of what so many games do wrong. "Convenience kills adventure"
I have been against the META builds, mini maps, quest markers, LFG and Raid finders, wanting auction houses to have steep "taxes" I never thought of finding a single word for it all.
This was a great video. I have argued some of these points many times - to the point where I feel like he quoted my statements about losing the "MM" part of an "MMORPG" (j/k of course).
I think the last 7 mins was great when he explained "how to fix" MMOs; in summary, understanding that no MMO is perfect, and that socializing will ultimately be up to us as the player - don't rely on the game to force you to socialize or otherwise create a social environment for you.
