Community Member Spotlight: Deadshade

1) What is your main character's in-game name and how did you come up with it?

Actually, I have 2 main names. The first one comes from my main on EQ in 99 – a Gnome Necromancer. I spent some time to create a name that fitted well and came up with Deadshade Darkweaver. But as not everybody is a Necromancer and my main in many other games was a Paladin, I have another name used for kinder characters – Malloran Trueheart.

2) What interests you the most about Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen?

Like many, I have been blown away by EQ. The emotions and adventures generated by this game stay forever engraved in my memory. I tried many MMOs after having left EQ at Planes of Power when I felt that EQ lost its soul or whatever it was that got us ticking in 99. With an exception of Lord of the Rings OL (but they had a unique lore writer and world builder ), I have never found a game that would keep me playing let alone interested. So when I heard about Pantheon’s Kickstarter I wondered if this could be a game that I’d like. What interests me most is the idea to create a game for a very specific segment of players. Pantheon proposed to do exactly the opposite of what all other MMOs have been doing for 15 years – instead of trying to please everybody and finally pleasing nobody, going all out in a well-defined direction without compromises and not worrying that some players will not like this kind of game.

3) What will your main race and class be and why?

With a very high probability a Dwarven Paladin. I have always been partial to Dwarves and Gnomes in all games and the reason why it will be a Dwarf is that the Pantheon’s Gnome style doesn’t resonate with me. Dwarves are fiercely loyal, stubborn and courageous yet have nothing against some good ale quaffing, head-butting and loud singing about gold. And a Paladin because it is consistent with the former even if I will have to tone down the quaffing a bit. Finally, as identification and immersion are for me the most important things that I ask from an MMO, I can only choose a race/class combination that really makes sense and is consistent with the lore.

4) What is your favorite system, mechanic or feature so far in Pantheon?

I would say the AI but we know little about AI so far. So it would certainly be the factions. Factions are little used in MMOs yet it is what makes the virtual worlds believable. No predictable binary NPC behaviour but a rich and complex diversity of groups that favorise immersion. Factions in EQ were for me what made the virtual world an interesting and (almost) living place.

5) If you could enter the game and visit anywhere in Terminus for 1 hour, where would you go and why?

Definitely the Oldassan Citadel. I would roam the city, admire Dwarven skills with stone and ice, talk with smiths and Guild leaders, visit the local library and last but not least of course empty a few tankards of ale in the local Inn and perhaps join a round of dancing and singing.

6) Finally, if you had to choose between any Pantheon skills or abilities to have in real life (IRL), what would you choose and why?

The ability to become a Master Smith or Master Jeweller. Create powerful or simply beautiful artifacts. Enjoying the work with iron, platinum, diamonds and perhaps even mithril.
