Lynn Ashworth, Our Project Manager

Posted date / 08.09.17

Hi! Tell the community a little bit about yourself.

My name is Lynn Ashworth. I grew up in Montreal, Canada. I travelled a bit, having lived and worked in Ireland for two years, China for one year and England for five years. I have moved around Canada as well. I have a Bachelor's Degree and Master’s Degree in Anthropology which hasn’t much served me but it did inspire me to take an interest in video game culture and the evolution of gaming from the 1970s to today. I, like many others fell in love with gaming at an early age. Yet I found myself moving away from gaming at certain points in my youth to gravitating back to and remaining a gamer as I grew older.

What is your role here at Visionary Realms?

I am the Project Manager. I am also a keeper of project documents, the creator and tracker of Gantts, and the chaser of people for which I am cheerfully persistent.

Is this your first video game related position?

It is. I joined back in early 2016 as a PM. I have an extensive background in project management with several successful companies which carried over well, as it was the supportive and flexible approach that the team required.

With the majority of the team working remotely, does it feel like herding cats?

Everyone seems to think it is like herding cats. I took the time to get to know the team, find out how they preferred to work and tailored my approach to implementing PM tools and processes while being cognizant of causing strain or stress. As there is some remote work, it takes a certain kind of approach in communicating with people and planning out projects. There is a definite learning curve to be successful but the team have been phenomenal to change and adapt when needed.

You have to devote time to cultivating and nurturing relationships with people that you will know for some time before ever meeting face to face. I think it happens quite naturally that you find yourself getting to know each other so well and creating bonds without sharing a physical space. It’s an interesting culture, one that I really enjoy. We have grown into a virtual family, I hesitate to say which role I occupy!

Thanks for sitting down with us, is there anything else you would like to add?

Our community has been amazing. The entire team is devoted to making this game an experience worth waiting for. I, like everyone else on the team, simply cannot wait to play.
