Community Member Spotlight - Dorotea

1) What is your main character's in-game name and how did you come up with it?

A) My forum name is Dorotea, a name I have often used as a character name in multiplayer games. One of my favorite fantasy series is the Black Company series by Glen Cook and at the end of one of the major books it turns out that the birth name of the leading villain/hero (yes she is both) is Dorotea Senjak.

2) What interests you the most about Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen?

A) A difficult question — I wouldn't have pledged and been active on the forums if only one thing interested me. For starters, the hope of a large and interesting world. We call these roleplaying games for a reason, and even if we do not roleplay our characters, a detailed and interesting high fantasy setting is an enormous plus to any game. Secondly, slow progress. 0 to 100 in six seconds may be good for a sports car, but 0 to level 50 in a year or two is better for an MMO that I will be able to stick with and enjoy for years to come. Thirdly, a challenging environment with consequences. - it is hard to enjoy a fight in a game where defeat and death means you respawn 10 feet away with no penalty. That’s why I often play "hardcore" style: die and the character gets deleted. I won't need to do that in Pantheon to have a reason to care whether the character lives or dies. Oh so many other things but this answer is long enough already.

3) What will your main race and class be and why?

A) At the risk of seeming to avoid the question, I will try all classes and all races — it is what I do in MMOs. In my first major MMO, Dark Ages of Camelot, the cooperative server had 18 character slots. I filled each one with a different class, all at maximum level — more than one without ever dying. I then declared success and moved on. While I expect to group quite a bit — that is a core feature of Pantheon — I will want one of my first serious characters able to solo in landscape. That way, when I can't group or am not in the mood I will have things to do.

4) What is your favorite system, mechanic or feature so far in Pantheon?

A) Hard to say since much still remains to be fleshed out. Probably the hope of a business model that will rely heavily on subscriptions and not having an in-game store. Aaaarghhhh, I hate in-game stores. Pay-to-play, whatever the details of the model, offers huge advantages to the players over free play. Most free players are as nice and as mature as any subscribers but, oh, the outliers that can get in with no investment and then have their fun trolling and being unpleasant. Consequences don't matter to them since they haven't paid a penny — or Euro — or other local currency. All Gods of Terminus save me from free play.

5) If you could enter the game and visit anywhere in Terminus for 1 hour, where would you go and why?

A) Haha! I would go nowhere and see nothing. I would still be on the character creation screen going through races and classes and working on my beautiful, long hair. The front doesn't matter unless you stop playing and turn around to look at yourself, you never see the front.

6) Finally, if you had to choose between being an ocean-dwelling pirate or travelling trader of the land, what would you choose and why?

A) I come from a generation that was fixated on dinosaurs more than pirates or superheroes. Sorry kids but pirates are murderous, criminal scum that just happen to ply their evil on water. Easy choice: a law-abiding trader. Not to mention I get a bit queasy on ships when the weather gets bad. At least the land doesn't shake too much. Few earthquakes where I go because I am kind to a fault. Har har!
