Do we want some form of Mass death locations, grave yards? and will this game have them?
I assume you mean graveyards like in WoW where its a respawn point after death?
Myself I wouldn't want to see this. I'd rather it be EQ style binds or better yet, you have to find a church/altar to "bind" at and you respawn there. You'd only be able to respawn in main cities. Give the required game mechanic of respawning an explanation within the world and not just something that happens which has to be ignored as being immersion breaking. Its a nit picky thing but I just really like there to be a reason behind game mechanics within the world.
They have stated that you will spawn where you are bound, so no graveyards. The one video specifically I remember this is the monk part2 gameplay when they explained they spawn at the zone-in, but when we get to game you'll respawn where you're bound to begin your corpse run.
I think having some way to retreive your corpse makes sense, but it should also have a penalty as well. So you could do a corpse run and be up and rolling like EQ was at start. However, if you get stuck somewhere and can't get to it then you go to a corpse summoner and they bring your corpse to you but there is an hour long penalty buff. This would still make corpse runs the primary way of getting your stuff back, but it would also provide an emergency kind of thing where the penalty is a reasonable option.

It's been awhile, but didn't VG utilize something like this? It was most beneficial to recover your corpse but, if you couldn't, you could get it at a rez thingy at a significant cost.

I really appreciate that you used the search function man and while graveyards may not have their own topic, they have been discussed in the multitude of "Death..." threads, I also remember something very similar from back in 2014 but it has since been archived, so this topic is ok to stand alone :)
With their plans for corpse runs, I would imagine graveyards could put a person in a real pickle if they had to then attempt to get back to their corpse or civilization all alone and completely naked. As travelling Terminus is said to be beautifully dangeous.
As Kilsin pointed out this is closely related to the Death Penalty threads and my thoughts on graveyards are still the same. Death needs to hurt, and I believe Brad has said he wants' it to stay short of Item loss. I'm not sure I 100% agree with that but he's probably right. (well since it's his game it's his call anyway)
My thoughts are, I don't feel a grave yard or a corpse summon stone or NPC is severe enough (100% in favor of SOME Player classes having Corpse summoning spells) . I feel a Corpse run IS emergent content, to take that away is taking away content.
it IS possible to have no graveyard/summoning Stone and still not have item loss. If a player dies in a place they can't get back too the quest is on to get the corpse, it may take a quick run back, it may take logging in the next day (player is out of time or rage quits), it may take finding a group to take you down in the dungeon to get it, it may take getting help from someone to summon or drag your corpse. THIS is a quest itself to get your corpse. Â In Original Everquest a corpse would rot after 7 days and you lost your items... I Think this 7 day timer is good, Just instead of loosing your items, your corpse could rot and all your Items are sent to your Character into an Inventory Overflow (there is really no reason to have a corpse laying around at a graveyard after the timer expires), If you weren't able to recover your corpse in a week you would still get your items back. No Item Loss, and you wouldn't have to get to your corpse.
To be able to just run up to Graveyard or an NPC and flop them 5 plat and your back on the way takes the sting out of it... your DEAD for heavens sake... we should act like it.
I, like many I am sure, have discussed the pro's and con's of various 'death' mechanics in the myriad of death threads:

As far as Graveyards go .... I think there is some scope for their use:
1. Unrecoverable Corpses
There will be occasions when your corpse is unrecoverable. This was a serious issue in EQ where there was also a 'corpse decay timer'. It therefore makes sense to have a 'backup' position in the game to cover these eventualities without the need for /petition GM.
Any corpse that remains unrecovered after 7 days is shipped to the nearest Graveyard.
Any corpse 'lost at sea' would be 'washed up' on the nearest stretch of beach after 3-5 days, say.
2. Corpses in Raid/Gated zones
Some zones are designed to be 'keyed' or restricted. Others are even more troublesome for corpse recovery. There is an argument (in some cases, perhaps) for having corpse recovery to the graveyard - though with ccertain restrictions to avoid this acting as a 'shortcut' exit strategy. You would want people to have to fight their way out of the zone, not just perform a mass suicide and regroup at the Graveyard.
a) Time delay between death and corpse moving to Graveyard
b) possibly allow Necro to summon corpse if he stands inside the graveyard
c) posibly allow payment and/or item sacrifice to NPC at graveyard to get your corpse delivered. This would need a Cooldown timer and a hefty cost to prevent abuse.
3. Access the Underworld
1. Seems like a good place to put the new "Terminus: The Underbelly" xpac zone access points!
2. Perhaps Necros could have (very) limited access from one graveyard to the next via tunnels to/from the underworld!
ummm.... thats enough musing methinks!

Generally I would be against anything like this but with a small staff every little bit counts.
Thanks,

Yeah since the OP didn't really give any explanation, I kinda assumed that instead of "resurrecting" the death penalty debate, he was more referring to a zone like Shadowrest in EQ, an actual graveyard where expired corpses would go: http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/zones.html?zstrat=256
It sounds like there will not be permanent item loss in Pantheon. So I think it would be cool to have a system with a repository for expired corpses where you'd have to perform some task or pay a price to claim your old corpses that have items on them. That way corpses won't remain in the overworld forever, but if, for whatever reason, you can't retrieve your corpse in the first 7 days, you still have a chance to get it. But they won't just hand it to you either. Maybe if there are no items on the corpse, it would just go poof after the set expiration time and you wouldn't be able to get that XP back. But at least you always have a Plan B for getting your items back.
