Integrating religeon into Pantheon...

When I think of the word Pantheon itself I think of an ancient temple dedicated to gods long forgotten.

One of the things that always bothered me all the way back to the days of DnD is that during character creation you just choose a god and that's that.

I'd rather see religeon as more of a system that you can choose to participate in. Maybe you could even worship multiple gods as long as they don't conflict with eachother.

Ultimately this could be an extension of the faction system and it would track your deeds in relation to your religeon.

Players would have to seek out a temple and possibly go through some trials to become a worshipper. This would especially be important for Clerics and Paladins.

In Vanguard there was an area called Pantheon of the Ancients where you choose a god and tried to please them and aside from the grindy part of the quest line I really liked the lore of it all.

Maybe some of the gods are yet to be revealed and players could discover ancient ruined temples to restore in order to bring these old gods back to power.

I'm sure there is lots of content that could come from a system like this. It would be great to hear more community thoughts on the subject.

    Thanks in advance,

    Kiz~

This is one of those systems that sounds really cool, until you realize its yet another grind and unless it is required people won't use it. If it IS required then people will complain, and if it is only required for specific classes (Cleric paladin) then people will riot. I like the idea of just selecting a deity and then rolling with it. Once in game it would be great to see perception quests based on deity selection that would handle the lore that you want to see instead.

Having a system through which you could change your deity affiliation might be a nice thing to see. Allowing RP "conversions" or a way for people who made a mistake to change without re-rolling entirely. This should be a rather long quest chain that is fairly difficult, but not on the scale of a huge epic quest.

    My 2 cents.

    From Istuulamae:

"In short, we want it to matter what deity you select, for obvious reasons. But there's a nuance in Pantheon that may differ from other games: each race has anywhere from 1-?00 deities, or things functioning in a deity-esque role. So you aren't picking from global, universal gods. You're picking from your racial roster, which is likely exclusive to your race. Now, there may still be some crossover between "like" deities, and that's the part we're working through now. So if you pick a God of Death for the Ogres, shouldn't that breed some familiarity with the followers of a similar god among the Dark Myr? We think so.

When we've got those details worked out, I'm sure we'll have releases that help you acclimate and understand the Gods -- or similar beings -- of each race. We want you to know who you're serving, as much as you can."

Perception and worshipping a diety could lead to some specific quests based on said deity. This part can be really cool if they throw in enough lore, maybe a couple vision videos.

You might find altars to your deity which provide various benefits, like in Elder Scrolls,  maybe some buffs or allowing you to item sink for better buffs, as has been discussed before.

Who you worship and your quality of worship will probably effect your factions.

    ____

I don't agree with most Actual worship stuff, at best it would be a grind. Telling your character to pray every day or some such.  At worst you might even offend the religious players who aren't too keen to put a lot of effort into a false god.

Granted, fasting or something for benefits, or taking some sort of vow of poverty like found in DnD, might be interesting since it would be a sacrifice for something worthwhile.

It's imporant to note though that this veil between terminus and the Gods probably limits godly boons.

    Thank you Baz! :)
