I was looking for some more information on the druid rings and stonehenge today for my fan art and  I came across something REALLY interesting!

I have wondered for a long time why it was built and what it was used for, and occasionally I find something good but today I found something really cool.  The article I am about to link has a few crazy suggestions but one of them is that StoneHenge might have been built as a celebration site and that it may be ONE HUGE INSTUMENT, set in a circle for the sounds to resonate!!

This musical instument made of rocks is called a Lithophone.

Do yourself a huge favor and check out these links.

Ah, interesting. I have not heard that before. In this link, I talked about how the Druid rings in EQ were inspired by Stonehenge. There is of course a lot of mystery surrounding Stonehenge, especially since other similar seemingly useless structures have been found in other parts of the world. One theory is that real-life Celtic druids could teleport between the different locations, which is the inspiration for EQ Druids being able to teleport to the rings :)

I sort of wonder if it wasn't for most of the theories people believe including teleportation! =)

There are some great documentaries in regards to stonehenge.  Great links by the way.

I'm a big fan of the theory that it is an ancient astronomical instrument, but perhaps it was designed to also be an instrument of sound for a multi-purpose site.

Yeah, back then from the documentries I have watched, they used it as a burial site as well but they also found animal bones and the sort there too.  Not to mention it does look like something to calculate the seasons and we know Summer and Winter Soltice was important to them.  The latest documentry I watched suggested that they had the stone rings to commemorate the dead and the Wooden rings to commemorate the living but the wooden rings got damaged.. However it was built directly across from the site with the stones.  Really interesting stuff.  For their time they were doing pretty well for themselves.  =)

This was an interesting read about how they used the stones: http://www.tivas.org.uk/stonehenge/stone_ast.html

    Neat read!

It would be kind of cool if the devs had lunar events and if we could go to the druid rings to determine when the next ones are coming!

I have been fortunate to visit Stonehenge a few times in the past. Stonehenge is an amazing area. The surrounding wilderness is very serene. There was some graffiti done on Stonehenge which made me quite sad to see when I was there. The best time, in my opinion, to visit Stonehenge is during the Solstice events. Especially Summer. Meeting people who were practicing Druidic traidtions at the monument in real life was enlightening. There is a calming spiritual energy at Stonehenge which I have not felt anywhere else. Definately recommend people to visit and experience Stonehenge themselves. My personal belief has always been that the historical Merlin figure of the Arthurian tales is buried at Stonehenge.

When you witness the sun rise above Stonehenge..........it is just pure joy.
