Paladin Race/Class Picture

While I intend to be a Human Paladin as always, I did find is surprising Elves were not included.

A Paladin is loyal to thier faith to a fault, and Elven culture tends to lend itself to that trait extremely well.

I understand their reasoning, and as I said, I will be a Human Paladin, so it doesn't affect me, but it was a surprise.

It was part of the original kickstarter. I'm bummed out it didn't stick.

It must have everything to do with the lore of the Elves. Apparently they are not connected enough to a divinity to act as Paladins or Clerics...

I thought so - but then I found out we only had two racial choices. A Human and a Dwarf. =/ The original kickstarter goal did have the Paladin as an Elf - i'm really curious why that changed. So now the prospect for a heavy Wisdom based Paladin is gone. Does this mean that the class mechanics now involve more melee combat? You're right - we need to know more. I really hoipe it's better - but seeing the way things are laid out race wise i'm just not warm on it right now.

I hope that in time you are put at ease.  It's clear you are very passionate about the class, and truly Pantheon as a whole.  While I won't be playing a Paladin (ever in all likelihood) my wife will be, so I will learn the class vicariously through her.  And of course, her being my tank I will have a vested interest in the Paladin's success as well.  I can tell you that there is not a snowflakes chance in hell she will be playing a Dwarf, male or female, which relegates her to Human.  That does feel slightly narrow on the surface, I will admit.

So like you, I do hope things work out.  In the larger picture, while I don't want any one class to be marginalized I think that the team has a plan for the Paladin and we've likely only seen through the peephole.  *Fingers crossed*

I bloody hate dwarves. They are the least interesting race to me in just about every game I've ever played (except Elder Scrolls where they are more interesting being an extinct race with mysterious lore). I hate that they always make it into games instead of other possible race options.

I appreciate you all contributing to the discussion - even if we don't share opinions. I really hope everyone gets a chance to have more options for the classes and races they prefer the most - but I also have to prepare myself for the fact it might just be a class relegated to being second tier in the eyes of the meta. Here's to hoping that isn't the case.

Maybe wait until the class reveal, then make an educated opinion.

People seem to think that Elven Paladins and Clerics are the end all. Pantheon Elves aren't traditional High Elves. They appear to be more nature-based.

However, I think the Progeny system and future expansions might give you what you want. They appear willing to unlock different combinations at a later time.

I think they'll wait to see their database metrics and see exactly how bad the situation is before they actually make an announcement either way. I don't blame them, that's exactly what i'd do if I felt that strongly about it.

I will have a dwarf paladin because that is what I had in VG.  It had alot of hp because it had best con bonus, but I could not do enough damage to hold agro against other raid tanks at end game since my str/dex was subpar.  I don't think I will ever raid with this toon in this game though.  Dwarves dont make good tanks IMO.  Taller races do because seeing the fight from above all the other characters make visual indicaters easier to see.

It looks like the dwarves are shortest race in this game, or tied with gnomes.  It is hard to tank when all you see is other character's chests.

I guess we'll just have to hold out until we see a further official response from the development team. :) Their last response was "We hear you." So hopefully that mean's further consideration is taking place.

I hope so, Human and Dwarf as the only options is absurd.

Really quenched my enthusiasm fast after seeing the chart.

People get really upset that their Elves can't be/do everything.

I was looking forward to playing a paladin, because, even if they are not a fantastic tank, they are interesting to play skillfully (based on other games).  I met a Paladin that put  time into his character in EQlive and he was very fun, efficient, and solid.  I was looking forward to being that player.  However, I enjoy playing fantastical races that have weaknesses to overcome.  I know dwarves are popular paladins, but they are far too cliche for me to ever play seriously.  I also don't play RP games to be a human, im a human IRL, and it, too is pretty dang boring.

I know there is probably a pretty loud voice echoing in the VIP forums about elven paladins/clerics(why else would they have already tipped their hand), I would play that.  Of, course my distant hope was a halfling paladin, which will likely not happen.  Honestly, I dont know if i will even try to play a paladin now until more combinations become available.  Until then, the enchanter population will get a little bit larger.

That's kind of what I feared Larr - but i'm holding a candle for there being a strong proposition for those who do become Paladin's. Fingers crossed. =)

I don't give a crap about elves, but it would have been cool to be a Dark Myr (they can be clerics) or like Larr I would have preferred to be a halfling.

I will roll a human because I now have to. But I most certainly will not be pleased about it.

Agree.  My EQ2 Paladin was a darkelf that overcame his evil hertiage and became a migthy paladin.  plus the racial traits were god awful for a pally which makes it more fun

Elven Paladins are far more cliche than Dwarves Paladins.

Dark Myr Paladin would be legit AF just saying.

I agree with beefcake though Elven paladins/clerics is done thoroughly to death and is boring.

Though I respect those who like the concept and can understand why they feel that, and no matter what happens I hope a 3rd option is added even if it's an undesirable race for me personally.

Dark Myr could be Paladins, since they can be clerics. But, I think they are more on the Dark/angry side which does not lend itself to ideals of Paladins. Of course, there are always dark Paladins, but I don't think Pantheon is going that route.

"Dark Paladins" probably lends itself to the Dire Lord, which is why Dark Myr can be Dire Lords.

But the Dire Lords appear to be less cleric warrior/hybrid and more warrior/necro hybrid. So, I cannot classify them as Paladins, since their hybrid is more arcane and less divine. But that is just the purist in me.

Nevertheless, your determination is probably correct.

Dire lord the evil or darker path. Paladin the lighter or good path. Warrior the neutral or just viscious natural path. Equal footing, but the Divinity of the Races are more 'Darker, Nature, Light' in the overall concept. Cleric doesn't necessarily mean 'light' just a devout of that races Pantheon of Gods. Druids more nature loving Pantheon, and Shaman's probably more Tribal. Without knowing skill titles, Paladin and Dire Lord may have many of the same starting abilities with secondary abilities that start to reflect the type of Pantheon that race has.

I agree with some of what you are saying. Clerics are not inherently good or bad. It's their deity that sets the morality path.

VR has previously commented that the Dire Lord is more necromancer/warrior hybrid. In traditional games, this make them more arcane and less divine. Where as Paladins are more divine warriors, which can be good/evil based on their deity.

Of course, Pantheon may classify Dire Lords as the evil equivalent of Paladins, bucking the traditional view as they have with other classes/races.  Pantheon may not even differentiate between arcane and divine.

Dire Lords/Paladins are my most awaited class reveals, because I want to see how they differ. They are both my favorites in many games, with Enchanters/Necros close seconds.

Ah very true, I was thinking i had an epiphany on all of it before i had my caffeine intake this morning. I am anxious for their reveals as well to see how the Divinties affect the factions/systems they keep talking about.
