So we know that non-combat pets / companions or whatever are going to be in the game. I'm curious if you guys would like to see them implemented differently.

Personally, I'd love it if, like glamours, non-combat pets were generally restricted to towns (it always makes people look totally stupid when a toy train or some other bullshit is following them around a dungeon or something) and there were far fewer of them, but each individual pet's purpose was dramatically expanded. Let me explain:

I have a cat, and one of my favorite things is that we have a love-hate relationship. When I get home from work and have had a bad day she usually hangs out (I'm mostly used for treats, but it's ok) and keeps me company. It cheers me up. I didn't win her as an achievement and her purpose is not for showing off to people, she's a creature that's a companion.

I think it would be a novel idea if, say, there were only a few types of non-combat pet (to cut down on the dev time for implementing games, etc.) with skins (breeding? rewards for smaller things? doesn't really matter) that you could play with in town. Eventually, when they add apartments, you could expand it so there are pet-related furnishings and stuff. For all those non-combat pets, might as well convert them to interactable toys.

I dunno, I think it would be cool if the primary purpose of getting a golden retriever was that you could pet it and play catch, etc. Maybe Dark Myr would have pet octopi lol.

I know this is way more programming intensive, but I generally see the way non-combat pets are used in things like wow and ffxiv and just think the system could be much more fulfilling than just this glitter vomit that most cosmetic stuff is in modern mmos.
