We won't have cross classes or the ability to change from one class to another in Pantheon, we have the traditional class roles that will specialise in their given role with some room to move/build/grow as class interdependence is very important to us as is the quaternity system that we are following.

If you want to heal, you will need to create a healer and level them up, if you then want to tank or dps, you will have to then create a new character choosing to either tank or dps and level them up, this way, classes are important, people can grow more attached to them and specialise in their roles and it helps with knowing your fellow players and who is good at what class, instead of being a jack of all trades, you can only master one in Pantheon (on one character).

    That sounds rather stringent.

Classes like Bard, Ranger, Paladin, Shadown Knight are still in the game.  Even classes like Druid, Enchanter, and Necromancer had a fairly large variety of abilities.

I'm wondering if The Hybrid classes like Ranger are going to be combinations of two classes like orignal EQ or if they are going to be something completely unique.  For instance perhaps a Ranger doesn't get Skin Like Wood at all, but a Druid does.

Hybrid classes and multi-classes are completely different though my friend, it was my understanding that the OP was referring to something similar to Rift or FFXIV, where you click a button and change from a Dps to a Tank spec and then to a caster or healer when you're sick of tanking, in Pantheon, you cannot do that, you will need to log out and log on to the tank character or create one, you won't be able to switch to a completely different class in our game.

The answer is also on our FAQ: https://www.pantheonmmo.com/game/faqs/#q10

    Hi Kilsin,

I read through the faq and didn't see anything regarding hybrid classes.  Does that mean there will be no hybrid classes?  Rangers will just be DPS for instance with their own unique abliities.  All I can find on classes is that each will fill a role.  In Everquest often classes could fill different roles depending on what was needed as some classes has a variety of different abilities/spells available to them.

The only reason I brought up hybrid classes is because they are similar to multiclasses.  They are a combination of multiple classes that have certain abilities (but not all) from each.  It is the closest thing to the FFXI system you would find in a game like Everquest.

Hybrid classes are basically a mixture of two classes and can perform both of those roles well but not as well as the main class, for example, a Dire Lord/Dread Knight/Shadow Knight is basically a Warrior and Necro fused together (not exactly but this is a good example to use for arguments sake), a Warrior will outplay them in a lot of aggro/melee instances and a Necro will out Dps them in casting/undead abilities but as a standalone class the Dire Lord/Dread Knight/Shadow Knight are formidable and will be able to successfully tank and cast to fill a main tank or off tank role in any group or raid.

So yes, we will have hybrids in that sense but they are still very different from multi-classes and having the ability to switch completely from a Dire Lord to a Necro on the same character, which we will not be possible in Pantheon, and that is what the OP is asking.

I would like to see a far more robust RACIAL ability build.  In this manner there "could" be a type of cross-classing by allowing the ADVENTURE class/Racial build.  For instance, I could see a Human Direlord having a totally different playstyle than an Ogre Direlord.  Sure, they would have the same spells/abilities as far as the adventure class goes, but they would have some vastly different abilities based on their races.

I know there have been some things like this before, but I would like to see far more racial abilities than have ever been seen before.  Say something  on the scale of about 50 racial abilities (including tradesill bonuses) per race.

Dont think that will happen. Would be interes, but would seriously delay release due to trying to balance all those options.

    Good luck.

I think this thread addresses a question I had on a different thread.  It looks like a tank won't be able to take off sword/shield and pick up a 2h maul to morph into some variety of DPS (presumably less efficient than a DPS class).

I recall leveling TESO sword and board and it being such a miserable experience, I ended up leaving.  On the flip side, in Rift, if I get bored with one style of play, I press a button and have a different style of play.

Thing is, I see Pantheon as roughly the same thing.  If I want to play a do-everything toon, I'll click the Rift button.  If I want to go to a venue where class roles are strictly defined, I'll go to Pantheon.

But I'll continue to hope that my tank will be able to put down his shield and pick up a big hammer from time to time.

You know very well that only Brad uses an OP "WarWizard" class man, don't start rumours ;)

I'd guess there will be at least one tanking class that can equip 2H and do reasonable damage when not tanking.  As you said, though, you won't be able to click something and suddenly compete with the pure DPS classes.

I have been trying to preach this exact idea for a while now. Each race should have their own tactics, tricks, etc. based on the culture and characteristics of their race. VR has said that racial abilities will be a thing, but they haven't elaborated on it at all yet, so the best we can hope for is that they have been working on this behind the scenes a lot.
