I used to be a hardcore Linux user. I used Arch Linux as my distribution of choice for many years and mainly used it for programming. I always kept Windows running in dual boot though. I'd never move to Linux if gaming is your primary use of the system. If you are a programmer or just do browsing / email / office work then yeah Linux is great. For gaming? It kinda sucks.
Wine on Linux more or less runs near every Windows game with little preformance difference. Most problems will come from anti-piracy tripe, and that will usally be on games that require third party memberships and ran through the likes of Uplay or Microsoft membership.
