Also to clarify, I *was* referring to deliberate training against another player.

While I have no desire to die to a train, I am not looking for a sanitized and guaranteed safe environment either. As I said, carebear not wuss ((chuckles))

The thing is that one, truly, can't have both.  If the door is open, anything can get in.  If it is closed, you might have a boring life and not experience much.

The point being, that if one tries to prevent right codes to prevent undesired behavior, it has the tendency to inhibit desired behavior as well.  There are things one can do, but one has to drawn a line somewhere as to freedom and barriers.

Designing Toxicity into your game ensures failure.  I look forward to seeing how this turns out for Visionary Realms, with popcorn if necessary. :)

EVE Online would like to have a word with you.

Hehe I played Eve Online for about 3 months...a leetle bit more hardcore than I was used to. :)   And their crafting mastery took 3 years I was told.   I decided I wasn't that dedicated with the pvp that went along with everything.  Just made it that much more difficult to get things accomplished. :)

Lol, eve is a special game and is not for everyone. They can get away with designing in toxicity because the nature of that world is all about generating PVP, and drawing battle lines between players by allowing them to leverage anything and just about everything to their sides advantage, including website casino's until recently. They only really cracked down on that aspect because it was being used to launder RMT transactions as I understand it.

At any rate, 3 years for crafting mastery is tad bit of a dramatization. To put that in normal MMO terms that would be like becoming a grandmaster Smith, Tailor, Jewler, Fisherman, Fletcher, Alchemist and so on. Some of which isn't really about being able to build X but rather about reducing the cost of building X. In many cases, being able to craft some items simply isn't required for most crafters, such as the Titans and most Capital ships since in many cases these ships are crafted on a corp scale and only a few crafters are necessary to supply enough for the corps needs. In most cases you can be effective as a crafter in a relatively reasonable amount of time, especially if you purely focus on crafting skills (although doing so at the expense of combat or mining skills often leaves you with little or nothing to do in game while your skills tick by). You might not be able to craft everything under the sun, but in Eve if you're attempting to do so, then typically you're not really reaching your potential. Its often much better to pick a type of thing to focus on crafting and then build a network of crafter friends to supply you with all the other things you may need.

Eve is a great game and has a ton of great things going for it, but as you said.. it can be a bit of a steep difficulty curve to get anything accomplished until you get your bearings and ultimately its just not for everyone because in eve if your not looking over your shoulder every step of the way and even planning contingencies on the potential for "friends" betray you, then you frequently find the need to pickup the pieces of a shattered dream. However when you and friends come together and make something work, its truely a massive success.

Patheon: Rise of the Fallen is a special game and is not for everyone.
